Diwali Annakut at Shanti Mandir!
Annakut
Annakut, which literally translates to "mountain of food," is a significant Hindu celebration that typically takes place the day after Diwali and marks the beginning of the New Year for many communities. It involves preparing and ceremoniously offering a vast array of vegetarian dishes and sweets to the deity, usually Lord Krishna. This tradition originates from the story of Lord Krishna lifting the Govardhan Hill to protect the residents of Vrindavan from the torrential rains sent by Indra, the god of rain. By offering the Annakut, devotees express their profound gratitude to God for the bounty they have received throughout the past year and seek blessings for prosperity and happiness in the year to come. The food is often beautifully arranged in a massive, symbolic mountain before being distributed as prasad (sanctified food) to the attendees.
